UNA WI DIVISION, UNA-DANE, AND UNA-MILWAUKEE HONORed THE LEGACY
OF SENATOR GEORGE MCGOVERN as a special UN Ambassador
who worked to eliminate hunger worldwide
ON SUNDAY, MARCH 3, 2013 AT A
LUNCHEON attended by 240 People from all Over Wisconsin
IN MADISON'S MONONA TERRACE CONVENTION CENTER
FORMER CONGRESSMAN DAVID OBEY gives a stirring KEYNOTE ADDRESS;
and other highlights of the day's events, including video
He is the father of longtime UNA-Wisconsin and UNA-Milwaukee leader, Susan McGovern.
THANKS to those of you who attended our UNA Luncheon on March 3rd, honoring Senator McGovern. Organizing for the event was led by UNA-Dane County, and co-sponsored by UNA-Milwaukee and UNA-Wisconsin Division. A special thanks to the many folks who traveled to Madison from greater Milwaukee and all around the state.
There were over 230 participants at this event at Monona Terrace in Madison We were inspired by the opening words from Senator Tammy Baldwin and Madison Mayor Paul Soglin. Our Global Citizen Award recipients reminded us of all the development work that is going on across the globe, and how much more there is to do. And our keynote speaker, former US Representative David Obey gave us the statistics we need to understand the growing disparity between the rich and poor, and why we honor George McGovern as we work to expose this injustice - and struggle to turn this trend around. Thanks, too, for all others who have supported this event with your donations and notes of support for the work going on now in our state with the UNA member groups.
Some highlighted photos are displayed above, and more will be posted shortly, along with further details of the day's events. If you missed the event, video of the day's program, courtesy of Madison's City Channel, can be found off of the link below.
